My Jungle Awakening
This is a documentary film about Lucrecia Borja, a 49 year old woman who has been living with breast cancer for over four years. During this time she has had over 17 surgeries, including a mastectomy and two brain surgeries. Shortly after her last brain surgery in December 2005, her western doctors in Southern California informed her the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and back and she needed the most intensive form of chemotherapy to prolong her life. But, they told her that even with the chemotherapy she may only have 6 months to live. Crecia was faced with the toughest decision of her life - spend the next 6 months living with the painful and debilitating effects of chemotherapy or spend the next 6 months saying goodbye to her friends and family. She did not see any other options...

Then everything changed when Crecia's good friend Ken Herft came back from Costa Rica with medicine from its jungles. The medicine was given to him by Don Candido, the indigenous medicine man featured in Ken's film
The Hidden People. Candido believes he can treat Crecia with the natural medicines from the plants and trees of the Costa Rican jungles.

This film is about Crecia's physical and spiritual journey of healing which begins when she starts taking the medicine brought back from the jungle. After a few weeks, she regains a tremendous amount of energy and is strong enough to travel to Costa Rica where she continues her treatment with the medicine man. We experience Crecia's miraculous physical and emotional transformation that occurs in the two weeks she is treated with ancient medical practices. Then, we follow Crecia back home where she struggles to integrate this alternative healing into a modern world. We watch as she makes the decision to combine indigenous and western medicine and how that affects her health, happiness and family.

Updates:
May 31, 2006: Lucrecia visited one of her doctors in Southern California to get results of medical tests that were taken a couple weeks after she returned from Costa Rica. The tests confirmed what she already knew physically, emotionally and spiritually - blood and bone tests were at almost normal levels with almost no signs of cancer. In another week she will return to the doctor for a PET scan and the cameras will keep rolling as this beautiful journey unfolds.

JULY 10, 2006: Lucrecia was having problems with her vision and went to get a check up and the doctors found a new brain tumor that had a cyst surrounding it. On July 10, 2006, she had brain surgery to drain the cyst so the pressure would be relieved. She is recovering like the warrior she is.

OCTOBER 21, 2006: Three months later, the doctors found 8 new brain tumors. Some of the tumors were in places that impeded her vision and the doctors removed those the best they could. After the surgery, Lucrecia generally regained her eye sight.

NOVEMBER 2, 2006: Lucrecia moved to Colorado to be closer to her relatives for more support as she underwent radiation treatment pinpointing the brain tumors that could not be removed through surgery.

JANUARY 9, 2007: Lucrecia has completed her radiation treatment that occurred for 6 weeks, 5 days a week. Lucrecia continues to fight hard, but today got news that the cancer has moved into her liver. Like in any battle, she took a few steps back with this recent news, but, as she always does, she fights to move forward and will try a new type of radiation to help lengthen her stay on this earth.

MARCH 22, 2007: Lucrecia gets wonderful news that the 8 tumors in her brain have disappeared leaving her brain clear of cancer. She has been using new, experimental drugs that are allowing her immune system to fight a great battle. She has a new attitude on life - every day is a step towards living with cancer.

MARCH 23, 2008: Lucrecia passed away Easter morning, a day that was very special to her.  The cancer had spread to her liver and the chemotherapy was not working.  Her friends and family were able to say goodbye and Lucrecia left her body in peace.  We will all miss this wonderful and courageous woman.
